Report on Kuwait Red Crescent Society Relief
Campaign
In response to the Bay of Bengal
Earthquake and Tsunami disaster that struck several countries
in Asia on Sunday the 26th of December 2004. US$ 10 million
dollars were allocated to help the affected countries mainly
Indonesia - Sri Lanka - Thailand - India- Maldives.
- · Cash donations were transferred
to India's Prime Minister's Relief Fund , a sum of US$
400.000 (four hundred thousand dollars).
- · Cash donations were transferred
to Indonesia's Secretary of the President Relief Fund, a sum
of US$ 500.000 (five hundred thousand dollars).
- · Relief items to Sri Lanka were
sent by planes starting 28th December 2004 and are still
ongoing on a daily basis.
- · Three volunteers were sent to Sri
Lanka, three to Indonesia and two to Thailand.
- · US$ 350.000 were transferred to
Sri Lanka to help building temporary shelters for orphans
and widows, repair of 500 fishing boats
- · Total relief aid to Sri Lanka
from 28/12/2004 until 14/1/2005 amounts to 89,105 tons of
assorted food items, blankets and medicines.
- · One ambulance was donated to Sri
Lanka Red Cross and transported onboard Kuwaiti Air force
plane.
- · US$ 100000 transferred to Bangkok, Thailand to
purchase relief items locally and distribute them on the
victims of the disaster.
